Facts About Fire Extinguishers

According to GUMC policy, in the event of a fire employees are to evacuate, activate the alarm as they leave, and call 7-HELP. If you choose to use a fire extinguisher, remember the following:

• “PASS”: Pull (the pin), Aim (the nozzle at base of fire), Squeeze (the trigger), and Sweep (the nozzle back and forth).

• Never block a fire extinguisher. Every second counts during a fire; it is also a violation of DC Fire Code

• Never store a fire extinguisher on the floor

• Fire extinguishers must be inspected monthly by Facilities Management
