We are dedicated to the discovery of new drugs targeting diseases of the central nervous system.  Interesting receptors and pathways are targeted with small molecules to impact diseases such as Glioblastoma multiform, Epilepsy, Neuropathic and Cancer pain.

A funded project underway in my laboratory involves targeting specific isoforms of the neuronal voltage gated sodium channel with small molecules for use in neuropathic pain, epilepsy and anti-cancer treatments.

Students and post-doctoral fellows can work and learn in one of my computational, chemistry, biology, or preclinical groups.  This integrated team approach provides unique training opportunities and collaborations engaged in system approaches to target validation in cells and human tissue, structure based and ligand based drug design, organic synthesis of targeted compounds, protein and cell assay development and in vivo evaluation of our novel therapeutic agents.  It is the goal of this lab to participate in the development of next generation medicines through translational academic research.
