Research Interest
VITAL MICROSCOPY IN THE ASSESSING THE PATHOLOGY OF KIDNEYS: Interest in this field began through studies involving the use of a “Tandem Scanning Confocal Microscope” (TSCM) and Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT). TSCM studies resulted in a number of publications that involved in situ imaging of the living kidneys in laboratory animals (i.e., rats/rabbits) (See publications). The ability of the TSCM to penetrate into the kidney parenchyma is, however, very limited (i.e., 50 to 80 microns), which precludes its usefulness in any, but the thinnest of tissues. More recently, we have been using OCT that has enabled us to penetrate much deeper into the kidney parenchyma and provide unique three-dimensional and quantitative evaluations of the living and diseased kidneys as exemplified in two recent publications. We believe that OCT has tremendous potential as new technology to evaluate pathological changes in the human kidney. My role in these investigations has been as Principal Investigator.
EVALUATION OF NSAIDS IN THE TREATMENT OF PROSTATE CANCER: These studies have been a series of investigations designed to evaluate the usefulness of NSAIDs in the treatment of cancer. These studies have been ongoing over the past six years. My role has been as Principal Investigator.
MOLECULAR MECHANISMS OF TARENFLURBIL IN TREATING ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE: There is evidence to indicate that Tarenflurbil is useful for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease. Our studies have revealed a unique molecular mechanism to explain how this drug works.
