Proposal Submissions to NIH through Grants.gov
Faculty that are submitting proposals to NIH must become familiar with the Grants.gov and NIH SF424 (R&R) submission instructions. Proposals submitted to NIH undergo a two step process. The application is first submitted to Grants.gov. Grants.gov checks primarily for viruses and ensures that the proposal contains the organization's DUNS number. NIH then retrieves the proposal from Grants.gov and checks it against its business rules. NIH will notify the PI and OSP if the proposal contains errors or warnings. Errors must be corrected and the proposal resubmitted through Grants.gov. Warnings should be reviewed to determine if they require correction.
Note that NIH has converted its effort calculations to person months. An effort conversion to person months can be done using this spreadsheet.
