In compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA), student records may not be shared with a third party without the student’s consent.
From the Student Accounts Menu in MyAccess, a student will be able to grant consent for the Office of Student Accounts to discuss his or her account via telephone with others.
Authorization may only be submitted via MyAccess by the student. By submitting this authorization, the student acknowledges that anyone who calls the Student Accounts Office and has his or her Georgetown ID number may inquire about the account. Authorization cannot be submitted only for particular individuals.
Student Accounts staff will only discuss an account once authorization has been granted. Furthermore, the inquirer must have the student's Georgetown ID available.
Without this authorization, FERPA bars student accounts staff from discussing anything with anyone over the phone.
Authorization can be submitted online via MyAccess in the Student Accounts Menu. To allow time for students to submit authorizations, Georgetown will phase in implementation of this policy.
