120. Rebates

Rebate is defined as a return to Georgetown University of either free goods or a monetary amount based on volume of purchases over a specified period of time. Purchasing will often seek to obtain a better price through negotiation instead of using rebates.

On occasion, vendors will offer a rebate on a selected purchase or to be used for a future purchase. Mail in rebates are to be mailed to the vendor by the department and the refund credited to a departmental budget. Rebates and refunds resulting from purchases are not to be used for personal use. Individuals are cautioned that on occasion there are terms and conditions applicable to rebates which should be reviewed by Purchasing.
If the department does not plan to use the rebate, it may be sent to the Purchasing & Contracts Department and it will be applied to another departmental order.
