1191. Planning & Project Management

The Planning and Project Management Department serves two important needs for the University, project management and documentation. For management, the Department provides a professional staff of Project Managers consisting of architects and engineers necessary to manage the design, construction and administration of Capital Projects. Project Managers are responsible for acquisition of a building permit, compliance with building codes and regulations, adherence to budget and schedule requirements, construction management, administration and documentation of their assigned Projects from cradle to grave. For documentation, the Planning and Project Management Archives is the repository for all building records. For any renovation or new project, building records, consisting of studies, surveys, specifications, building permits, as-built drawings and systems operations manuals, must be obtained and maintained in the Archives. These records are critical tools for life safety, facility maintenance, preventative maintenance, systems life cycle costs, future renovation and construction projects.

Buildings, systems and equipment are maintained on a Deferred Maintenance Database Program based on life cycle costs. As part of the preventative maintenance program, Building Condition Surveys performed on a set schedule by the Planning and Project Management staff to update and assess actual condition of each building, its infrastructure and systems. A report is written and provided to the Owner with the findings of the survey, identifications of problems, recommendations, options, consideration associated with each option and cost of corrective action associated with each option.
The Planning and Project Management Department is responsible for obtaining and maintaining licenses and permits for pressure vessels, underground storage and surface tanks, elevators and other environmental assessments or taxes. Any additions or deletions of these type of systems must be coordinated with the Planning and Project Management Department.
Any loss of building services due to system failure, damage or catastrophe will be corrected to restore service and will be coordinated with Insurance Representative of Risk Services, Facilities Management, contractors and local government inspection agency, as necessary.
