Teaching

I teach classes on international relations theory and international organizations both for masters students and Ph.D students. I have also taught statistics classes for undergraduates and masters students. I will put up new links to current syllabi shortly.

International Courts Data

I created a new site that assembles (links to) data from various scholars on international courts. It also contains my own data on the European Court of Human Rights.

International Judicial Behavior

I have two works in progress on judges on the European Court of Human Rights: one on judicial impartiality and one on judicial appointments, which is forthcoming in International Organization.

Comparative Legal Systems

With Howard Rosenthal, I have an article forthcoming in the Journal of Comparative Economics that examines the measurement of economically relevant aspects of legal systems across countries.

Shaming

With James Lebovic, I have an article in International Studies Quarterly on shaming practices in the UN Human Rights Commission. A follow-up piece examining the cost of shame is forthcoming in the Journal of Peace Research.

Voting in the UN General Assembly

Click here for an updated data set with voting records and descriptions of roll-call votes on resolutions in the United Nations General Assembly (1946-2005). There are also some cool animations of the development of ideological conflict in the United Nations General Assembly over time. For more info on the UN General Assembly Roll-Call Voting project and its twin projects on the European Parliament and U.S. Congress, check out the VoteWorld web-site.

The UN Security Council

I have published articles on bargaining in the Council and the legitimacy of the Council. I have also tried to give my 2 cents on reform, but that didn’t help much.

Public Opinion on the War in Iraq

Together with Paul Brewer, I have an article in the Journal of Conflict Resolution on public support for the war in Iraq and the President. Be sure to check out the graphs.
