I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Government at Georgetown. I am also a faculty affiliate of Georgetown's African Studies Program, and a member of the Executive Committee at Georgetown's Center for Latin American Studies. My research focuses on the influence of external actors on political and economic development. I am currently investigating whether aid helps post-conflict reconstruction and whether the international community can promote democracy. I have publications forthcoming on the role of aid in improving governance across developing countries and on whether remittances affect access to public utilities. I received my Ph.D. in Political Science from Stanford University in 2008. I then held a postdoctoral fellowship at Stanford's Center on Democracy, Development, and the Rule of Law.
